A sculptural, patterned handmade vase by Emily Marston, in which the flowers sit behind a geometric plane. These work perfectly with a single stem, a small posy of flowers, or as a stand-alone piece.
This collection of vases was developed out of a fascination with the interaction of architecture and the natural world; clean lines against organic shapes. The minimal slab-built forms contrast with plants and flowers, with the flowers peeking out from behind the vase.
The front plane incorporates fine layers of hand coloured clay embedded into the surface, making each piece a one off. This patterning process has gradually developed after working and experimenting with Nerikomi technique and coloured clay over the last seven years.
This vase has blue and white clay inlaid into white stoneware.
All of Emily’s work is hand built in her studio in East Oxford. After firing, the outside is polished by hand to create a smooth surface. The inside and back are glazed with a clear glaze meaning that the vase is perfect for use with fresh as well as dried flowers.
Approx. dimensions:
Height – 8.8 cm
Width – 12.5 cm
Each piece is made carefully by hand which means that they are all unique. By their nature they may reveal small imperfections which are all part of their handmade character.
Emily is committed to working responsibly as a maker and she makes conscious decisions in every part of her process. Each piece is mindfully made in her garden studio, and fired using 100% renewable energy. All packaging is plastic free and reusable or recyclable.
